We Sold Our First House
We sold our first house on Friday.
We didn’t expect it to be our forever home, and we are excited for our future plans, but it was slightly bitter sweet.
It was an old house, but a good one for us. We weren’t the first people whose stories started in it. And we won’t be the last. There is definitely something beautiful in that.
For everyone looking to buy their first home, I would offer the following advice.
Find something with good bones and under your budget. Maybe not your “dream” house. A solid home, with a structure to keep you safe and with room to improve and expand it to your needs.
Be prepared for the stress of the home buying purchase and keep in mind that no one likes the process.
Have ALL the paperwork. You’ll understand when you start going through the loan process.
Don’t get too attached to it. Life is always changing often in ways that seem bigger than you can anticipate.
Maybe it is your forever home; or maybe it’s your home for right now.
Don’t get too distracted by it not being “hgtv” ready. Granite countertops don’t make a happy home, the people inside of it instill that particular magic.
Don’t be afraid to rest in it, and don’t be afraid to work hard for it.
And don’t let fear keep you from dreaming of more.
Home is more than just a place to send your mail to. It’s your present, and your future, and eventually your past.
So enjoy every moment, learn from every headache and heartache, and continue building towards the life you want, with the people you want in it.
